Job Opening: VFX Lead Artist
Location: Montreal, Canada
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Provide the technical setup, integration, optimization and troubleshooting of performant VFX in a real-time game engine.
- Ensure VFX assets are efficiently built within budget, with quality and style remaining consistent across environments.
- Participate in R&D, tool development, software integration, and pipeline development.
- Generate benchmark assets for technical and artistic guidance, for all types of VFX in unique visual styles to match project requirements.
- Collaborate effectively, building positive relationships with internal team members and cultivate strong relationships with external partners.
- Help build a VFX team of highly talented artists.
- Establish and document best practice guidelines and workflows.
- Guide and mentor artists.
- Learn the gameplay and game story, guiding the team on technical and artistic constraints.
- Work with Production to schedule, plan, and prioritize team tasks.
- Collaborate with Recruiting on VFX team hiring.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience working with an Art Director to define direction, establish key goals, define best practices and communicate this effectively with the VFX team.
- Expert technical skills in Unreal Engine.
- Advanced industry experience in Niagara, Houdini, Maya, Photoshop and Sequencer preferred.
- Experience with Unity, in-house game engines, Blueprint (Unreal), HLSL, and Python scripting a big plus.
- A strong sense of shape, design, weight, timing and color theory.
- Strong experience working with outsourcing and understand real-time game development needs.
- A minimum of 5 years experience as a real-time visual effects artist on shipped titles.
- Lead at least one AAA game.
- Applicants must live in the Quebec province and be authorized to legally work in Canada.
