Job Opening: Technical Game Designer
Location: Rotterdam, Netherlands
Type: Full-time / Part-time
Responsibilities:
- You work on character controllers and core gameplay features that require close collaboration of tech, design and art from concept development through release;
- You work on pieces of gameplay in which random generation, modularity or other technical themes and challenges play a major role;
- You coordinate with the Tech team about implementation and its consequences for game feel, controls and feedback;
- You translate pain points and possibilities in the workflow into usable tools, which you then realize in collaboration with the Tech team.
- Generating ideas and inspiring the design team;
- Prototype and deploy ideas in Unity C#;
- Conducting playtests and processing and presenting the results;
- Documenting choices in function of communication to others and for the improvement of the entire process. You do this by means of sketches, videos, prototypes and one pagers;
- Your support in performing Quality Assurance (QA) for existing games;
Qualifications & Skills:
- You have passion for and experience with Game Design.
- You have been working professionally in the game industry for at least 3 years and therefore have extensive experience and knowledge of the design process of games. You know the pitfalls of each phase and know how to deal with them.
- Do you have more than 3 years of experience? Then you are also very welcome and we will adjust the role accordingly.
- You have a good sense of game feel and the role that in-game feedback and implementation play in this.
- You have a sense of timing, presentation and cinematography.
- You are a technical powerhouse.
- You have the right technical knowledge: You can assemble these kinds of systems/tools independently in Unity C# and you have the vocabulary to instruct the Tech team if this is necessary to realize a design.
- You know the technical ins and outs of asset production processes and workflows and how to improve them.
- You are familiar with real-time online multiplayer games and the techniques used .
- You have knowledge about animation and the animation pipeline.
- You are a proactive problem solver.
- Communicative skills: listening to needs from Game Design and Tech and specifying towards the Tech team, giving feedback, setting boundaries.
- Analytical and problem-solving: you can translate emotional shortcomings in the game into concrete technical proposals.
- You can work well in multidisciplinary teams based on a briefing, for example together with marketing or audio experts.
- You can estimate how long certain tasks will take and adjust the work and frameworks for others based on feasibility.
- You master the Dutch language in word and writing.
