Job Opening: Lead FX Technical Director
Location: Vancouver, Canada
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Mentor junior artists and set a positive example for the team.
- Finalize shots driving existing tools or creating your own solutions, including hero and creature FX to accomplish shot narratives.
- Meet project milestones and deadlines on time.
- Collaborate with other artists to share knowledge and techniques.
- Communicate with other departments to receive feedback and resolve shot issues.
- Assist members of the FX team to learn and grow their skills to by providing informal feedback, tips and tricks, and encouragement.
- Assist in planning conversations about the direction of FX while being mindful of the continuity for the entire show/sequence.
- Provide guidance to the rest of the FX team
- Provide some direct supervision and review of team members’ work
- Help assess potential future additions to the FX team
Qualifications & Skills:
- Good communication and interpersonal skills (great attitude goes a very long way)
- Creative high-speed problem-solving with the resources available
- A strong artistic eye
- We value a wide range of skills in the FX domain from simulations to character FX
- 5+ years of senior FX Artist experience in feature films, tv and/or commercial work
- Experience using and troubleshooting in Houdini
- Strong written and verbal English language skills
- Excellent in proactive problem solving and finding solutions
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment remotely
- The ability to efficiently organize and prioritize work across multiple areas
Nice to Have:
- Knowledge/experience in Python language
- Working knowledge of source control systems, PyQt or other GUI toolkit
- Experience in other areas of the visual effects pipeline.
