Job Opening: Storyboard Supervisor

Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada

Type: Full-Time

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with series director on the style of the series
  • Establish and define process and workflow for the board team
  • Lead the team in translating the script into visuals – this will be done through a combination of fully drawn sequences and utilizing some established CG elements such as sets where characters are drawn over top
  • Ensure the storytelling is hitting the right notes; that the emphatic moments have emphasis, there is intensity where needed, the jokes are funny and the story pays off in the end
  • Annotate scripts thoroughly and direct the storyboarding team throughout the boarding of an episode; communicate ideas effectively and recommend solutions to help interpret the script visually
  • Consult with series director as to the feasibility of action in the script and suggest creative solutions that will maintain the vision of the series
  • Approve the final storyboard panels and be aware of the show continuity
  • Train, mentor, and motivate storyboard artists
  • Anticipate, communicate, and troubleshoot any creative or technical issues
  • Understand the needs and strengths of the storyboarding team and encourage growth and development of the storyboarding team
  • Provide constructive feedback and guidance to team

Qualifications & Skills:

  • You have previous experience as a Storyboard Supervisor for a 2D or 3D animated series
  • You have 4 or more years’ experience as a Storyboard Artist
  • You have strong communication, leadership and critical thinking skills
  • Strong drawing skills and sense of design, character and composition
  • Strong understanding of storytelling principles and techniques
  • Strong posing, acting, and timing skills
  • Ability to communicate and provide feedback in a professional and positive manner
  • Creative problem solving skills
  • Ability to work digitally (Cintiq with Sketchbook, Photoshop, etc.)
  • You have a Degree/Diploma from a recognized animation school
