Job Opening: Special Effects Artist

Location: Quebec, Canada

Type: Full-Time

Responsibilities:

  • Submit special effects ideas and creative solutions to managers and ensure their execution ;
  • Provide solutions to improve game performance;
  • Collaborate with the technical artist to ensure that the necessary technology and features are in place to achieve visual quality standards;
  • Work closely with the design, programming and animation teams to ensure the integration and consistency of the special effects produced;
  • Adapting his work to different artistic styles within the technical limits of Unity and Unreal game engines;
  • Share artistic knowledge with artists and support them when needed;
  • Assist in scheduling special effects tasks.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • College or university education in arts, multimedia, 3D or equivalent;
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the video game industry;
  • Advanced knowledge in creating particle and shader effects on Unity and/or Unreal game engines;
  • Advanced knowledge in creating textures;
  • Knowledge of video game constraints and performance management (memory, GPU, CPU);
  • Knowledge of Substance Designer and Houdini (an asset);
  • Knowledge of modeling software like Blender (an asset);
  • Fluency in French and English (written and oral);
  • ESSENTIAL: Portfolio and/or demo.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team;
  • Good time management and compliance with production deadlines;
  • Have a good artistic culture (games, multimedia, cinema, etc.);
  • Demonstrate autonomy, resourcefulness, organization and rigor.
