Job Opening: Pipeline Technical Director

Location: Mid-City, Los Angeles, US

Type: Full-Time

Responsibilities:

  • Solve production issues that require technical expertise
  • Own, support, and improve the pre-production and production pipelines
  • Collaborate with technical staff across studio sites and external vendors to increase the efficiency of dailies, data exchange, and tracking
  • Thoroughly understand the animation production process, both internally and when working with external vendors
  • Establish high-functioning levels of communication with creative and technical staff both within the studio and at external vendors and partners
  • Liaise between production and technology departments, translating production needs into technical requests
  • Create tools and automation to reduce the technical burden on the creative staff
  • Regularly examine user experiences, satisfaction, and level of understanding to identify areas of improvement in the pipeline
  • Collaborate with IT to evaluate and integrate changes to the studio infrastructure
  • Document tools and workflow and train creative staff on those processes
  • Examine new and innovative technologies, evaluate, and ultimately present how to improve the pipeline

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, or comparable discipline and/or technical and creative knowledge gained through equivalent experience
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work independently while balancing multiple competing priorities
  • Understanding of CG concepts and workflows
  • Experience with third-party software packages such as Adobe Photoshop, Foundry Flix, Autodesk Maya, Foundry Nuke, and Autodesk Shotgun
  • Proficiency with Python scripting language

Bonus Skills

  • Experience in computer animation, visual effects, or the game industry
  • Experience supporting animation pre-production departments such as Story, Editorial, and Previz
  • Experience with pipeline and plugin development in third party DCC tools
  • Experience with software development languages such as Java, Javascript, C++
  • Experience with other toolkits and systems such as Qt, Docker, Git, AWS
  • Experience with OSX, Windows, and Linux operating systems
