Job Opening: Senior Lighting Artists

Location: Sydney, Australia

Type: Full-Time

Responsibilities:

  • Create and deliver models from concept artwork, photogrammetry, lidar or photographic images
  • Compile references and material that aides the process of model creation as well as approvals
  • Create and deliver models that meet each creative and technical brief
  • Work with Look Development and Texturing artists to create optimal UVs that meet the standard and requirements of the shots.
  • Work and communicate with Rigging, Lighting, Layout and Effects departments to address any model related technical needs and requirements
  • Re-topologize lidar scans and or hi-res models provided by other vendors when needed
  • Stay on schedule and meet set deadlines while maintaining the highest level of work quality
  • Present your work for internal reviews after ensuring it hits creative and technical notes
  • Communicate effectively with production, leads, HOD, supervisors for an efficient tasking and approval process
  • Mentor Junior Artists and share experience and tips to help them grow and better the quality of their models

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in the areas of model asset creation
  • Expert user of production ready software including Maya, Z-Brush/ Mudbox, UV layout, for high end environment, hard surface, creature and character models.
  • Deep understanding of the working of a VFX pipeline and the needs of all relevant downstream departments that interface with assets
  • Working knowledge of a Windows system environment
  • The ability to prioritise tasks, manage time, provide accurate time estimates on shot task completion
  • Excellent listening and communication skills, able to receive direction and feedback
  • The ability to follow up on assets handed over to downstream departments and being proactive to address their needs and requirements
  • The ability to incorporate internal/external client feedback and briefs in the model
  • Excellent presentation/communication skills in dailies/shot reviews
  • A good attitude, the ability to manage stress for yourself and others in the team, and work collaboratively within a team environment
  • The ability and willingness to help and teach mid to junior-level artists
  • Deep understanding of proportion, depth, scale, and physical space
  • Knowledge of Maya is essential, knowledge of Python, Houdini, and Redshift preferred
  • Texturing and surfacing experience is a plus
  • Houdini procedural modeling knowledge is a plus
  • An artistic background in fine art is a plus
  • Knowledge of USD and evolving modeling tools and pipelines is a plus
