Job Opening: Senior Layout Artist
Location: Adelaide, Australia
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Create a 3D layout of scenes, including camera placement, framing, movement, and blocking animation based on storyboards or previs.
- Work with the VFX supervisor to understand the creative vision and technical requirements for each shot.
- Ensure the composition, depth, and scale are consistent with the live-action footage.
- Creative environment and shot dressing tasks.
- Demonstrate progress through the regular submission of work in progress and daily updates.
- Flexibility to work across multiple shots or shows and be proactive on meeting deliveries.
- Collaborate with other VFX departments to ensure that assets are seamlessly integrated into the pipeline.
- Clearly communicate with production any delays or obstacles that may impact your schedule.
- Ensure shot layout, orientation, and continuity line up with scene and sequence requirements.
- Adapt and make necessary creative changes to shots as the brief evolves.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Minimum 5 years of feature film experience using Maya.
- Excellent understanding of composition, perspective, lensing, and camera movement.
- Strong understanding of camera terminology and techniques.
- Complete understanding of camera projection and multi-plate camera blend workflows.
- Knowledge of animation, model, and lighting principles.
- A showreel that demonstrates their ability to create and layout 3D environments and camera shots.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Excellent communication and time management skills.
- Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Experience with standard VFX tracking software such as 3dequalizer, Nuke, PFTrack, SynthEyes, and MatchMover is a plus.
- Knowledge of Python/Mel Scripting is a plus.
