Job Opening: Senior Data Analyst / Telescope Operator
Location: Perth, WA, Australia
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Manage performance of the data analyst/operator team including setting milestones and performance goals, managing rosters, providing mentorship, and nurturing development.
- Lead the day-to-day activities of the operator team, providing guidance on work duties.
- Conduct, monitor, and calibrate astronomical observations and use appropriate computing resources towards successful operation of the telescope array releases (when they become available and as required).
- Lead system checks, maintenance handovers, array and correlator/beamformer configurations, and setups.
- Drive quality assurance of (continuum, spectral line imaging, and/or time-domain) data obtained from early array releases and using existing low-frequency data sets.
- Provide guidance and direction to operator-oriented software development.
Qualifications & Skills:
- An undergraduate degree or higher in astronomy, physics, engineering, computing, or a related field.
- Experience in leading, managing, and developing a diverse team.
- Aptitude to control and operate a scientific research facility including familiarity with monitoring, controlling, and scheduling.
- Appreciation of steps required for the acquisition and processing of scientific data.
- Aptitude to contribute to the definition and development of operational procedures, monitoring dashboards, and documentation.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- An awareness of equitable practices, including accessibility, to facilitate broad access to the Observatory.
- Experience in radio astronomy observations and data reduction pipelines, especially at low frequencies.
- Familiarity with low-frequency radio astronomy calibration techniques.
