Job Opening: Rigging Artist
Location: U.S. or Canada/ Remote
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Work with the CG Supervisor, VFX Supervisor, Production and Creative Departments to complete assigned rigging tasks for the assigned show(s).
- Meet all milestones while adhering to the show’s schedules.
- Generate a variety of realistic creature, hero, digital double, vehicle, and prop rigs.
- Rig and deform realistic body and facial rigs.
- Work on multiple assets when needed.
- Take direction and effectively communicate with team and management.
Qualification & Skills:
- Proven experience working on a variety of tasks, such as mechanical systems, animals, complex realistic body and face deformation, automation through scripting, tentacles, ropes, vehicles, crowd characters, etc.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with production-level character rigging, scripting, and tool development.
- Strong knowledge of Maya’s rigging toolset, including skeleton placement, skinning techniques, IK/FK setups, corrective BlendShape workflow, expressions, utility nodes, and Maya deformers.
- Strong comprehension of anatomy and articulation (human and creature mechanics).
- Keen artistic eye to drive the look of realistic and appealing surface deformations.
- Production experience with MEL and Python scripting.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to multi-task, prioritize, take criticism, and work under high pressure with short deadlines.
- Experience working with Shotgun software preferred.
