Job Opening: Color Designer
Location: Remote
Type: Contract
Responsibilities:
- Creating color keys for characters, props, and backgrounds based on line art provided by design or layout teams.
- Establish color palettes that support the story tone, emotion, and visual style of the 2D animated series.
- Apply lighting, shadow, and time-of-day variations to color designs for consistency across scenes.
- Work closely with the art director to ensure colors align with the show’s look and feel.
- Provide clear and organised color reference files for background painters, animators, and compositors.
- Adapts color choices to suit different environments, moods, or special sequences (e.g., dream, flashback, dramatic lighting).
- Review and refine color work based on notes from the art team, director, or production.
- Ensure color consistency across episodes by maintaining reference sheets and updating palettes as needed.
- Prepare color materials for shipments to vendor studios.
- Meet deadlines while balancing multiple assets or episodes.
Qualifications & Skills:
- An understanding or experience with the arts, animation, gaming, and/or ‘internet nerd’ culture.
- Be extremely organized and have a strong work ethic.
- Engaging personality and willingness to learn.
- Positive, go-getter attitude with a passion for making things.
