Job Opening: Mid/Senior Effects Artists
Location: Sydney, Australia
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Create and design visually stunning effects, including but not limited to particle simulations, fluid dynamics, destruction, cloth simulations, and environmental effects.
- Work closely with the VFX Supervisor, CG Supervisor, and other team members to understand the project requirements and artistic vision, ensuring the delivery of high-quality effects.
- Utilise a range of software tools and techniques to develop and execute effects, such as Houdini, Maya, Nuke, and various proprietary tools.
- Collaborate with the pipeline team to develop efficient workflows and tools to enhance the effects production process.
- Troubleshoot and problem-solve technical issues related to effects simulations, ensuring smooth integration into the overall visual effects pipeline.
- Maintain a strong knowledge of the latest industry trends, techniques, and software advancements related to effects creation, and share insights and best practices with the team.
- Mentor and guide junior artists, providing constructive feedback and support to help them develop their skills and grow professionally.
- Collaborate with other departments, including animation, lighting, and compositing, to ensure seamless integration of effects into the final shots.
- Adhere to project deadlines and deliver high-quality effects within allocated timeframes.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment, fostering a culture of creativity, innovation, and excellence.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Graphics, Visual Effects, Animation, or a related field.
- 5 or more years of experience as an Effects Artist in a professional VFX studio environment, with a strong portfolio showcasing your effects work.
- Expertise in Houdini, Solaris, USD and familiar knowledge in various renderers.
- Solid understanding of physics, dynamics, and natural phenomena, with the ability to apply these principles to create realistic effects.
- Proficient in scripting and programming languages such as Python and VEX to develop custom tools and automation scripts.
- Strong artistic eye and attention to detail, with the ability to balance artistic vision and technical constraints.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to optimise and debug complex effects simulations.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively communicate ideas, give and receive feedback, and work as part of a team.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workload effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
- Familiarity with the VFX pipeline and production processes, including asset management, render farm utilisation, and shot tracking systems
