Job Opening: Lighting Supervisor, 3D
Location: Vancouver, Canada
Type: Full-time
Responsibilities:
- Mentoring, training, and managing the lighting team in both technical and creative capacities
- Manage the lighting and compositing team, assign workload, set and maintain standards of all work completed
- Work collaboratively with all neighboring departments including the Art Director and Series Director
- Own and drive the lighting process and workflow for the entire project
- Establish lookdev lighting environment to match the show’s needs on an episodic and series level
- Assist with the creation of documentation for lighting best practices and techniques
- Ensure and maintain the expected render time, quality, and style across the show and series
- Lead the team to deliver the show needs on time and to the expected quality standards
- Communicate and work closely with the Series Director, Art Director, CG Supervisor, and the pipeline team to ensure an efficient and creative production
- Overseeing the daily activities, leading the department, and establishing best practice workflows and guidelines for the team
- Review, debug and improve other team members’ assets, workflows, and techniques
- Meet production deadlines and maintain regular communication with the production team
- Implement workflow, scripts, and tools as needed
- Anticipating, communicating, and troubleshooting any creative or technical issues
- Organizing training for new employees as well as refresher sessions for existing team members in order to keep them up to date with new tools and techniques
- Working closely with management to guide artists overall professional development by providing performance feedback, mentoring, resolving performance issues, and maintaining positive morale within the team
- Assist the Artist Management and Recruiting departments in the crew selection process
- Be a positive and creative force in building a healthy work and team culture
- Communicate with other supervisor and team leads on concerns and production issues ahead of time
Qualifications & Skills:
- 2+ years Supervisory experience in lighting on an Animated Feature film, Feature Quality Episodic production, or Cinematic GameTrailers utilizing the Unreal Engine
- Production experience in UE4 is a must
- Working knowledge of Blueprints
- Excellent knowledge of lighting in UE4
- Expert level understanding, color, lighting, compositing, and rendering workflows
- Previous Experience in Lighting Look Dev
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team, often with multiple tasks and under deadline pressure
- Experience using Perforce and Version Control Software
- Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently
- Experience with in-engine lighting techniques and workflows
- Ability to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas in a professional and positive manner
- Knowledge in Maya
- Shotgrid knowledge is a definite plus
