Job Opening: Lighting Artist
Location: San Diego, CA, USA
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Strong background in real-time game lighting, including a good grasp of performance considerations and gameplay dynamics.
- Thorough expertise in lighting principles, color theory, form, and value, essential for crafting impactful visual experiences.
- Demonstrated proficiency in composition and color grading techniques, adept at realizing the desired aesthetic vision.
- At least 1 AAA game shipped
Qualifications & Skills:
- Professional experience in game development as an Associate Lighting Artist
- Knows how to communicate complicated Lighting issues with different audiences: artists, engineers, managers, designers, etc.
- Experience with standard industry tools, Unreal, Photoshop, Houdini, etc
- Experience with real-time GI-based lighting systems. Preferably Unreal Engine 5 and Lumen
- Strong knowledge of lighting in real-time engines
- Strong understanding of atmospherics, fog systems, and how to use them in the engine to enhance the look of what you are lighting
- Experience with Lumen, PBR, materials, identifying problems with materials, and use of the buffer visualization tools to identify these problems
- How to work within the EV100 system and HDR lighting pipelines
- Understanding how color grading works and using it to establish a feeling or mood
- Basic understanding of lighting optimization
- Strong understanding of the fundamentals of lighting, color theory, form, and value
