Job Opening: Lead Weapons Artist
Location: Lake Forest, California, United States
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Lead Weapons Art team: Maintain consistency across the department, provide direction and feedback, ensure all team members understand their role and what is expected of them
- Work with Directors, Design, and Production to scope out and plan the weapons and supporting assets needed for the project
- Coordinate with other departments to create, design, and iterate on weapons and follow them through to implementation in the game
- Improve weapon designs based on feedback provided by playtesting, internal reviews, and adjustments in creative direction
- Collaborate with Weapons, Tech, and Tools team to build pipelines and tools to support and streamline the weapon process
- Create and maintain documentation and style guides related to the weapon creation processes, ensuring consistency and efficiency for both internal and external art teams
- Work closely with the department manager to provide mentorship and coaching for Weapons Art team members including but not limited to: 1:1s, career development, performance evaluations, and goal-setting
- Playtest with the studio and the Weapons Art team to review implemented weapons work in the game
Qualifications & Skills:
- 7+ years of game experience in game development with one or more shipped titles on multiple platforms in a leadership role
- A stunning portfolio that clearly demonstrates expertise in the creation of realistic high-quality weapon assets using Sub-D and CAD modeling
- Highly proficient with either Max, Maya, or Blender. Comfortable with CAD modeling and ZBrush
- Highly proficient in Substance Painter
- Demonstrated experience working with modern FPS engines (UE4, UE5, etc.) and modern art pipelines
- Excellent communication skills. Must be able to thrive in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment
- Strong technical skills and understanding of modern game art pipelines
- A passion for games and weapons impacts on gameplay experience
