Job Opening: Lead VFX Artist

Location: Europa, Remote

Type: Full-Time

Responsibilities:

  • Be a manager and provide leadership and mentorship to the VFX team, promoting their growth and yours.
  • Be responsible for the quality output of the VFX team, delivering top-quality visual effects by focusing on key areas and maintaining high standards.
  • Assisting the Direction team in reaching new goals, setting the team’s vision, and respecting the artistic vision and gameplay needs.
    Identify and communicate effectively potential project risks to other leads, directors, and management.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, guide R&D, and collaborate with technical teams to improve VFX pipelines and team output.
  • Help the team execute high-caliber visual effects that align with the artistic and technical vision of the game.
  • Apply advanced technical proficiency in Unreal Engine, Niagara, Houdini, and any other systems required to create and integrate impactful visual effects.
  • Nurture robust relationships and proficiently manage workflows with external and internal collaborators.
  • Document best practices and workflows for both internal and external teams.
  • Help producers in scoping and prioritizing work for the team.
  • Be a Go-To Expert and support in the visual effects area.
  • Collaborate closely with other teams, leads, production, and directors across multiple projects in establishing long-term feature roadmaps to help everyone succeed, making trade-offs when appropriate and needed.
  • Supervise the documentation created by the team members, making sure it is up to the required standards.
  • Perform employee performance reviews and assist with HR processes.
  • Work with recruitment and HR to onboard new talent and develop current team members.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience in Real-time, Game-Ready VFX for game engines.
    Proven success in AAA game development, having made significant contributions to at least one complete project cycle, with credited contributions.
  • 5+ years of experience in game development, ideally in VFX or a related role.
  • 2+ years of experience in a managerial role such as Lead.
  • Previous leadership experience.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Outstanding soft skills for effective mediation and to foster collaborative decision-making.
  • Solid understanding of modern game production cycles and methodologies.
  • Profound expertise in modern Game Engines, with a strong preference for candidates with in-depth knowledge of Unreal Engine 5 or Unreal Engine 4 for PC and Consoles, including an understanding of its technical limitations and complexities.
  • Experience with modern VFX systems such as Niagara (scratchpad, grid2D) or others relevant to VFX.
  • Familiarity with modern VFX production workflows and industry-standard Digital Content Creation tools (DCCs) and their scripting languages (At least one of 3DS Max, Maya, or Blender) for creating and integrating VFX.
