Job Opening: Lead Concept Artist
Location: Copenhagen, Denmark
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Team Oversight & Leadership
- Lead and manage a team of 5 or more artists across multiple disciplines (characters, environments, props, creatures, etc.).
- Maintain the established artistic vision for projects by creating style guides and reference documentation.
- Conduct daily reviews and check-ins, ensuring alignment with project milestones and quality standards.
- Act as the main point of contact between the Art Director and the concept art team, translating feedback into actionable tasks.
- Provide constructive feedback to ensure consistency and quality across all concept art assets.
- Ensure that client feedback is interpreted and implemented effectively within the team.
- Hands-On Concept Art & Quality Assurance
- Create compelling visual designs, from characters and creatures to environments and props.
- Work across multiple artistic styles, adapting to different projects while maintaining visual cohesion.
- Review and critique the work of junior and mid-level artists, offering mentorship and improvement strategies.
- Problem Solving & Workflows
- Identify and address workflow inefficiencies, skill gaps, or production challenges.
- Maintain team stability, resolve conflicts, and support a healthy creative environment where feedback is encouraged.
- Cross-Project Knowledge Sharing
- Collaborate with other Lead Artists to share best practices and ensure consistency across projects.
- Contribute to the studio’s ongoing development of artistic techniques and workflows.
- Client Interaction & Reporting
- Prepare client-facing materials, participate in meetings, and represent the concept art team in discussions.
- Communicate project status, challenges, and artistic decisions to clients and the art director.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience: 5+ years in concept art, with at least 2 years in a lead or senior role within a game studio.
- Portfolio: A strong portfolio showcasing high-quality concept art across various subjects (characters, environments, props, creatures).
- Leadership: Proven ability to manage, mentor, and guide a team of artists.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Photoshop, Blender (or other 3D software), and industry-standard tools for concept design.
- Game Development Knowledge: Understanding of game pipelines, production phases, and industry best practices.
- Communication & Collaboration: Ability to interpret client briefs, translate feedback, and clearly articulate artistic vision.
- Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot artistic and production challenges while maintaining high standards.
