Job Opening: Lead Cinematic Animator

Location: Nottingham, England, UK

Type: Full-Time

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Animation Director to realise motion captured and key framed animations to a world class cinematic level.
  • Breakdown scripts to deliver the narrative cinematics and scripted events.
  • Inspire the team by setting a high standard for cinematography and character development.
  • Deliver on high quality cinematic animations at every stage of the pipeline, from the initial concept to final polish and implementation into UE4.
  • Plan, schedule and direct full performance captures.
  • Work closely with the Technical Leads and Production, providing regular feedback to improve the cinematic pipeline.
  • Regular communication with production and other departmental leads to maintain schedules and deliver to deadlines.
  • Identify and develop the growth of the team through hiring future team members.
  • Provide creative and technical feedback to the team.
  • Manage, train and mentor the growth of the cinematic team.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 5+ years’ experience as a cinematic animator.
  • At least 1+ shipped AAA title in a Lead position.
  • Excellent understanding of cinematics, narrative and character development.
  • Ability to improve shots through full performance captured data.
  • Expert knowledge of Maya and Motion Builder.
  • Strong keyframe skills.
  • Solid understanding of the core principles in animation with the ability to adapt to different animation styles.
  • Good working knowledge of UE4 and the cinematic toolset.
  • Excellent communications skills to work with other departments.
  • Strong passion for games.
  • Excellent understanding of production procedures and software employed in the team.
  • Good interpersonal and motivational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Able to manage, plan and organise time.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Team leadership qualities and a team player.

Nice to Haves:

  • Strong drawing skills.
  • Gameplay experience.
  • Video editing experience.
