Job Opening: Lead Character Artist
Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Creative Director, Producer, and/or Art Director to establish and maintain the visual look of a project.
- Develop integrated project plans, implementation schedules and overseeing the assigning and tracking of art assets.
- Communicate regularly with Creative Director, Producer, and/or Art Director regarding project milestones and initiatives in making sure to obtain executive guidance and approval when needed.
- Creating briefs and documents for asset creation and training.
- Prepare and plan for content submission packages for client ensuring that content is present, organized and quality checked so that they are ready to review all of this on time.
- Interact with Artist on Client/Partner side to ensure expectations are met and understood
- Diagnose and understand Client/Partner technology and processes and train artists in using it if required.
- Identify and recommend areas of growth for each artist to the Art Director.
- Participate in defining tools and art production pipelines whilst understand the advantages and limitations of technology and thus develop strategies to maximize performance.
- Assist in HR related processes such as monitoring staff well-being and identifying potential risks.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Full proficiency in software packages and tools of the games industry listed below
- 3ds Max/Maya
- Substance Painter
- Zbrush
- Photoshop
- PBR workflow
- Surface knowledge on the following software and tools
- Blender
- Intermediate to high proficiency in the following tools:
- Unreal Engine Character Setup
- Unreal Engine Rendering (Lighting, Rendering)
- Highly proficient in at least one of the following disciplines and intermediate in the rest.
- Human Anatomy
- Creature Anatomy
- Hard Surface Modeling
- Cloth Sculpting or Simulation
- Passion for game development.
- Proficiency in Game Engine technologies such as Unreal with asset integration.
- Experience with the game art asset pipeline, i.e. highpoly and efficient game ready lowpoly modelling, texturing and baking.
- Exceptional knowledge of technical game art theory (game design, texel density, polycount, optimization, etc.) and traditional art theory (function, form, shape, proportions, color, etc.)
- Keen eye for light, shade, color and detail in creating texture maps of different material types.
Beneficial skills
- Experience in scripting languages are a plus.
- Ability to guide and train Juniors
- Experience using Substance Designer
- Skill in one or more related disciplines—concepting, animation, visual effects, or technical art
