Job Opening: Grooming Supervisor

Location: Madrid, Spain

Type: Full-Time

Responsibilities:

  • Work with VFX Supe and/or Character Supe to create the look of the grooms including tests throughout the character development process to ensure the grooms are visually unified.
  • Responsible for the general management of the Groom department in conjunction with the Production team and maintains the consistency and quality of look throughout production.
  • Attends Character Dailies to provide overall department perspective for maintaining continuity and quality of work being delivered.
  • During reviews, discuss complexity with the VFX Supervisor and offer creative input and ideas to enhance the characters. Create solutions to creative problems.
  • Works closely with the CFX Supervisor to identify early shot groom deformation challenges for individual characters or sequences.
  • Facilitate solving and supporting other department concerns.
  • Works with the VFX Supervisor, TD Supervisor and CFX Supe on the design and establishment of the groom deformation pipeline, workflows and methodologies.
  • Monitor render times and make rendering recommendations.
  • Work with show management and production to ensure the Grooming team achieves (or exceeds) productivity expectations.
  • Assist VFX Supervisor in monitoring continuity.
  • Elevate issues and solutions to Associate Producer/Producer appropriately and effectively.
  • Work with the Production team of the department to create the schedule, cast shots/assignments to artists, manage the bidding process and ensure quotas/deadlines are met for both shots and sequences.
  • Supervise Grooming artists, assign the work to each team member according to their skills.
  • Give guidance to the team, supervise the quality of the work and, works closely with production, in the fulfillment of deadlines
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition during the recruiting process to help identify the best talent for the studio.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 8 years or more of professional experience in VFX or animation industries
  • At least 4 years of experience as Lead in the animation industry
  • A strong creative/technical background as proven leader in setting direction for a production and for inspiring and motivating production staff.
  • Experience in Houdini, xGen, Yeti, or other grooming and simulation systems.
  • Knowledge of Arnold and shading
  • Experience in building pipelines
  • Advanced English level
  • Spanish oral and written, is desirable.
