Job Opening: FX Artist
Location: Melbourne, Australia
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Creating particle, rigid-body, fluid, cloth, fur and/or hair simulations or animations
- Applying lighting and shaders to produce the final rendered image or passing the simulation on to a Lighting Technical Director
- Using a variety of commercial and proprietary FX tools including Maya and Houdini
- Working in partnership with other departments to ensure that shots are delivered to the highest possible standard
- Designing and creating images, elements, effects, pipelines, tools and techniques
- Helping to design solutions involving a more procedural approach in order to create the effects required
- Producing reviewable composites of all FX elements for a shot. Sometimes FX TDs will be expected to produce final renders too
- Investigate and keep up to date on new and competing software packages and technology
- Communicate regularly with Production and Leads regarding schedules and deadlines
- Work efficiently as part of a team, or independently, to complete assigned shots
- Submit shots for review and follow through with notes as required
Qualifications & Skills:
- Minimum 3 years experience in a similar role;
- Strong knowledge of Houdini;
- Good artistic skills;
- Demonstrable ability to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas;
- Ability to take directions and adapt to changes;
- Excellence at improvising and problem-solving.
