Job Opening: Head of Lighting
Location: Vancouver, Canada
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Run lighting department dailies to ensure consistent workflows and approaches to lighting are upheld and keep render times in check.
- Have an overview of the different production challenges on each show offer support when required and escalate show-stopping issues to Heads of CG, Pipeline, and Production.
- Attend show dailies when possible to support show supervision and flag any potential issues and offer solutions.
- Work closely with Heads of Lighting in other locations and divisions sharing developments, resources, and general department information to promote global collaboration across Framestore.
- Work closely with Head of Lookdev, Head of Environments, and Head of Rendering to ensure a unified approach to rendering, maximizing efficiency, and staying up to date with the latest technology and workflows.
- Research new techniques and approaches for the Lighting team and regularly present findings to heads of CG, and software departments.
- Work alongside the Software and Pipeline teams to manage and test in-house proprietary software.
- Work closely with the department manager to plan lighting and look dev artists assignments to shows, conduct appraisals, and manage performance.
- Work with recruitment to find potential new candidates and attend interviews.
- Monitor and maintain training procedures and documentation, working with the training department to build up central resources to help onboard new Lighting recruits ensuring the wiki and other resources are current.
- Engage with Production Leadership to ensure they can meet production schedules and budgets.
Qualifications & Skills:
- A proven track record in film quality visual effects
- Extensive production experience in a similar or relevant position
- Experience in leading teams on VFX projects
- Extensive hands on experience with lookdev, lighting and rendering
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent organisation skills
- Negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Able to promote and initiate change
- Experience in writing shaders for physically based ray tracing
- Understanding of colour science
- Working knowledge of python/c++
