Job Opening: CFX Artist (Mid-level)
Location: Sydney, Australia
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute high-quality character effects simulations, such as cloth, hair, fur, muscles, dynamic elements, as well as post-animation corrections if required.
- Collaborate with animators and riggers to ensure character rigs are optimized for simulation and achieve the desired aesthetic and performance.
- Create and maintain clean simulation setups and workflows to streamline the production process.
- Troubleshoot technical issues related to simulations and work with the pipeline team to implement effective solutions.
- Work closely with the VFX Supervisor, CG Supervisor, and other team members to understand the project requirements and artistic vision, ensuring the delivery of high-quality effects.
- Maintain a strong knowledge of the latest industry trends, techniques, and software advancements related to effects creation, and share insights and best practices with the team.
- Adhere to project deadlines and deliver high-quality effects within allocated timeframes.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment, fostering a culture of creativity, innovation, and excellence.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Graphics, Visual Effects, Animation, or a related field.
- 3 years of experience as a CFX Artist in a professional VFX studio environment, with a strong portfolio showcasing your effects work.
- High level of proficiency with industry-standard software such as Houdini is essential.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, groom, cloth and hair simulation is essential.
- Experience simulating creatures i.e muscles, fat, and flesh is a plus.
- Understanding of Maya and rigging is a benefit, as well as other relevant softwares such as Clo3D and Marvelous Designer.
- Solid understanding of physics principles and dynamics simulation techniques.
- Good understanding of scripting and programming languages such as Python and VEX to develop custom tools and automation scripts.
- Strong artistic eye and attention to detail, with the ability to balance artistic vision and technical constraints.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to optimise and debug complex effects simulations.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively communicate ideas, give and receive feedback, and work as part of a team.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workload effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
- Familiarity with the VFX pipeline and production processes, including asset management, render farm utilisation, and shot tracking systems.
