Job Opening: VFX Editor
Location: New York
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Lead editorial project assignments through all stages of VFX production; from bidding and pipeline test to delivery of final frames.
- Communicate with client editorial and production.
- Receive and process Editorial Cut References and Turnovers (MOV/AAF/EDL/CSV/PDF)
- Maintain the in-house editorial database (Shotgrid) tracking render lengths and adjusting cut lengths according to client updates for show assignments.
- Chase down and troubleshoot issues for VFX Artists and Production.
- Provide line-up information such as retimes, post-moves, repos and resizes to artists and supervisors.
- Output visual and audio shot references from client cuts for artist and production use.
- Provide visual reference for production, stage, art department, client, etc.
- Online and QC plate elements and on-set references (ie. lighting, macbeth charts, lens grids, etc)
- Update sequence cuts with new “daily versions” from VFX artists and outsource vendors; noting any irregularities to artists/ prod/ pipeline/ etc.
- Output sequence movie files, audio files, and EDLs for CG as specified.
- Provide cuts and minicuts for client and in-house reviews.
- Prepare and upload client deliverables (ie. Media Shuttle, Aspera, etc.)
- Work with the VFX and/or Animation Supervisor, present creative edits to the client when required.
- Show wrap-up including finals reel, artist reels, prep Editorial for show archive.
- Drive production of internal and external studio marketing reels.
- When working with an assistant, mentoring and delegating.
- Performs special projects under the supervision of the Senior or Supervising Editor, production manager or department manager.
- Support Data IO in delivery and transfer of media, including 3rd party vendor outsource material, client editorial movie files, pulls from and final frames to DI, etc.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience as an Editor in a Production environment; focus in Features and Episodics a plus.
- Proficient with Adobe Premiere, previous experience with Avid Media Composer.
- Strong comprehension of VFX
- Strong ability to multi-task and meet deadlines while working under tight schedules.
- Strong team player with good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Extensive knowledge and comprehension of codecs, transcoding and QT formats, timecode, framerates and vfx frame numbering.
- Extensive experience with shot tracking databases (i.e. Shotgrid/ Shotgun, Filemaker).
- Ideal candidates have an approachable, unflappable, friendly demeanor with the added ability to explain technical issues to often times non-technical staff or clients.
- Experience with Nuke Studio/ Hiero a plus.
- Understanding of Colorspace, OCIO, Lut handling/ application a plus.
- Working in shell/ command-line environments a plus (ie. Linux/ Unix).
- Knowledge of traditional film/print/negative a bonus.
