Job Opening: Combat Designer
Location: Austin, Texas
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to prototype, build, and iterate on combat
- Work with art, animation, engineering, and QA to create interesting enemy abilities and behaviors
- Explore combat roles for enemies, to build interesting encounters that challenge the player’s skill and strategy
- Document and design tools, metrics, processes, and features needed to build engaging content
Qualifications & Skills:
- 3+ years in AAA development in Combat or Encounter Design on at least one AAA game
- Familiarity with RPG systems and mechanics
- Experience with UE4, Behavior Trees, and the AI Blackboard
- Experience with scripting languages (Blueprint, LUA, C#, Python, etc.)
- Experience working with combat frame data and building complex attacks
- Experience designing adjacent systems, such as cameras, targeting, and controller ergonomics
- Basic knowledge of scripting languages and code
- Experience crafting AI behaviors and setting up encounters
- Eye for detail, and an appreciation for art, animation, FX, and audio
- Extensive knowledge of Combat Mechanics, and an opinion on what makes them fun
- Ability to articulate and break down complicated concepts in writing and conversation
