Job Opening: Character Designer
Location: Mid-City, Los Angeles, USA
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Create art for project concepts, characters (and textures are a plus).
- Generate work in the form of sketches, rough designs, and final character designs.
- Create character turnarounds and character poses in 2D and/or CG vis dev models.
- Perform research that will inform the design of the work.
- Create presentation materials as needed.
- Brainstorm inventive ideas that support the storytelling; to add depth, humor, emotion, and resonance to visual concepts.
- Knowledge of human anatomy and/or animal anatomy.
- Bring creative solutions, receive feedback well, and be able to iterate on creative ideas.
- Meet scheduling deadlines.
- Ensure files are organized to the show-specific versioning system.
- Proactively communicate production issues/questions/concerns.
- Make any changes or revisions and re-submit to the Production Designer for approval.
- Communicate with the Design Supervisor & Production Manager regarding the status of work and any problems that arise.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Design experience on commercial film/show and an understanding of how an Art Department functions.
- A comprehensive understanding of visual storytelling.
- Advanced knowledge of Photoshop.
- Ability to work collaboratively, communicate clearly, present work, be a team player.
- Knowledge of anatomy.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision both independently or in collaboration within a group.
- Able to adapt to shifting priorities and story changes.
- Legally authorized to work in the US.
- The requirement to be, or become, a member in good standing of the Animation Guild (Local 839).
Pluses:
- Practical knowledge of Costume Design experience and ability to provide material call-outs/texturing.
- Working knowledge of Maya, Blender, and Zbrush.
- Ability to indicate materials.
