Job Opening: Character Artist

Location: Stockholm, Sweden, Europe

Type: Full-Time

Responsibilities

  • Modeling, texturing, and implementation of stylized in-game characters & creatures.
  • Working with shaders and content setup.
  • Being able to follow references, concepts, and art direction while also having the initiative to take the work further independently.
  • Identifying functional and technical aspects of real-life assets and translating them into stylization.
  • Participate in design choices and communicate with peers, managers, and vendors.
  • Work closely with the team and mentor junior talent to ensure that quality is consistent and cohesive.
  • Determining the logical split of character mesh parts for optimal functionality in Character Customizer Editors.
  • Coordinating with other departments, such as Design and Animation, around any possible dependencies.
  • Maintaining and evolving our 3D asset pipeline.
  • Creating and maintaining documentation, as needed.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Extensive experience working as a Character Artist within games, with multiple AA+ releases.
  • Experience in a Senior role, or equivalent, mentoring and guiding less experienced colleagues.
  • Experience working with Maya, ZBrush, Photoshop, and Substance Painter.
  • A great sense of anatomy, scale, proportions, stylized silhouettes, materials, color, and light.
  • Experience working with Normal Mapped assets, shaders, pipelines, and PBR workflows.
  • Knowledge and interest in both technical setups and mechanical functions.
  • Knowledge of asset creation, in-game models, efficient UV layouts, LODs, and character capsule colliders.
  • Great understanding of real-time graphics with proven experience in creating stylized-looking assets.
  • Good understanding of customization systems, both in their technical setup and asset authoring.
  • Fluent in English with good communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience working with Unreal Engine 4 and/or 5.
  • Experience working with Substance Designer.
  • An interest in a variety of different game genres.
