Job Opening: CG Supervisor
Location: Bristol, England, UK
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Work with Production to determine what information may be required from clients to ensure a smooth show setup
- Managing and supervising the teams to create 3D content on schedule and budget.
- Quality controlling output by the team on assigned tasks in line with budget requirements
- Determines technical approaches needed to achieve desired look and behaviours of the production’s assets within agreed technical pipeline
- Work with R&D and Production to define future direction of technology development at Axis VFX
- Work with pipeline to write, edit, install, and maintain show-specific configuration files and scripts. (Outputs configuration – dailies, videouts, colour pipeline etc.)
- Identifies, defines, prioritises and oversees the implementation of tools that automate production tasks
- Set up Workflow Templates (WFTs) at the show level
- Provide references, recommendations or technical solutions for effective task completion
- Working closely with the 3d and RnD departments to identify process improvements/tools to increase department productivity.
- Install standardised show-level assets (such as AnimationExtras or MatchMoveExtras)
- Assist the team in debugging problematic shots and assist in optimising shots for efficiency
- Liaising where necessary with clients and 3rd party contractors.
- Attend all relevant meetings to promote effective communication to the team.
- Working with production management to resource and prioritise tasks and help drive the team to meet schedule and budget objectives.
- Working closely with the Head of 3D to guide artists overall professional development.
- Appraising, coaching and where necessary leading disciplinary procedures
Qualifications & Skills:
- A minimum of 5 years CG experience in high-end film / TV series
- 2 years of experience as a Lead
- Supervisory experience is required
- Ability to train and coach artists in Lighting techniques and approaches
- Expert knowledge of Arnold
- Proven experience with Houdini, Maya and Nuke
- Experience with programming/scripting languages (such as python, vex, C++, etc.) is a plus
- Strong aptitude for technical workflow challenges such as directory structure, file formats, naming conventions, scripts, automation tools, automated dailies, etc.
- Thorough understanding of a linear colour-space workflow
- Excellent eye for detail for quality control
- Ability to complete bids; determine the timeframe and scope required for each project
- Ability to troubleshoot and deal with competing priorities
- Capable of managing a team of artists; setting expectations, and managing their time
- Ability to assess Axis VFX resources and talent pool to ensure workflow can be completed
- Strong leadership skills
