Job Opening: Visual Development Artist
Location: Helsinki, Finland/Berlin, Germany
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Creating visual development art and concept art for new gameplay features, events, items, and environments that effectively convey the desired look, feel, and mood of Merge Mansion
- Turning ideas into visuals by exploring a variety of design approaches and color schemes
- Aiding in the content pre-production and feature prototyping phases, working collaboratively with Designers, Narrative, UI/UX, and other artists
- Collaborating closely with internal and external Artists to brainstorm and provide feedback throughout the Art asset production process, ensuring the highest quality
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience working in games and making informed, player-centric art decisions based on design, narrative, and product goals
- Ability to create versatile and iterative concept sketches and explorations in high volumes, both for individual assets and full visual game experiences
- Capability to take visual ownership of features, events, or small projects end-to-end – from early ideation and collaboration to moodboards, concept sketches, art feedback, and visual QA
- Mastery of art fundamentals and color theory, resulting in visually impactful and harmonious artwork
- Strong cross-disciplinary collaboration skills
- Familiarity with animation principles in UI or game features
- Familiarity with 3D software such as Blender and Unity
- Experience with mentoring
- Prior experience working with outsourced teams and giving actionable art feedback
- Portfolio including early-stage visual development work or prototype-stage artwork, so we can see your skillset in the portfolio evaluation stage
