Job Opening: Character Generalist

Location: Wellington, New Zealand

Post: Full-Time

Responsibilities:

  • Be proficient in a broad mix of character-related disciplines such as modeling, texturing, and shading
  • Model and texture high- and low-resolution assets using 3DS Max/Maya, ZBrush, Substance, and Photoshop
  • Provide rigging and look dev ready assets that meet the technical requirements of the production pipeline
  • Research new shader development techniques
  • Texture characters in a range of styles from stylized to photorealistic
  • Prepare assets for physical simulations such as cloth, and hair
  • Strong knowledge of the latest industry-standard tools, workflows, and techniques
  • Optimize models and textures to meet the specifications set by the Lead Artist
  • Maintain the quality and continuity of the art direction
  • Solve department problems and set best practices with the team lead
  • Effectively and proactively communicate issues with colleagues and openly adapt your work to the show’s notes and direction
  • Work with the Production Department to meet project deadlines and milestones, including assets deliveries weekly quotas, as set by project leads and the production department
  • Use proprietary pipeline tools to ensure each asset meets technical standards

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 2+ years of shader development experience in the games or film industry
  • 2+ years of experience using Maya, Substance Pro, Photoshop, Z-Brush, or equivalents
  • 2 + years of shader development in Unreal Engine
  • High proficiency modeling in Maya and Zbrush
  • Extensive anatomical knowledge
  • Extensive knowledge of shaders, physics, and other character-related developments
  • Expert understanding and attention to detail in all aspects of UV’s and shading, texturing, and look development
  • Understanding of color theory and how lighting affects color
  • A good understanding of rigging & animation is a plus
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative and team-based environment
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet team deadlines
  • Able to follow supervisor/leads instructions, ensuring assets and shots created are organized and optimized
  • Ability to communicate creative and technical ideas
  • Excellent visual skills and high attention to detail
