88 Pictures is looking for talented Matte Paint Artists to join our team on a contractual basis at our Mumbai studio. We are seeking artists who possess a strong foundation in classical background art combined with an advanced understanding of structural scale, architectural perspective, and dynamic color theory. This role is ideal for creators who can bring strong artistic judgment and meticulous attention to detail to build immersive worlds that drive visual storytelling. Key Responsibilities
- Create high-end, realistic, and stylized matte paintings for complex environment extensions.
- Establish accurate structural scale, perspective guidelines, and lighting baselines across shots.
- Collaborate with production teams to develop immersive worlds that support the narrative’s visual direction.
- Maintain high artistic quality and strict attention to detail under production deadlines.
Requirements & Preferred Qualifications
- Experience: 4+ years of professional experience in matte painting or background design pipelines.
- Technical Edge (Highly Preferred): Strong hands-on experience with Nuke and Maya for 3D digital matte painting projection workflows.
- Artistic Background: Deep understanding of 2D drawn animation backgrounds, architectural layout, and color theory.
- Education (Preferred): A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fine Arts, Illustration, Painting, or a related classical art discipline.
- Availability: Ready to work full-time, on-site at our Mumbai studio on a contract basis.
