Job Opening: 3D Modelling Artist (Blender) – R&D Team

Location: Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India

Type: Full-Time

Responsibilities:

  • Model high-quality characters, props, environments, and hard-surface assets in Blender for use in VFX and animation productions.
  • Develop procedural asset creation workflows using Geometry Nodes to increase efficiency and scalability in asset development.
  • Collaborate with the R&D team on building automated tools and smart assets that integrate seamlessly with the studio’s asset pipeline.
  • Optimize assets for performance and compatibility across Blender, Unreal Engine, and USD pipelines.
  • Ensure models are clean, well-topologized, UV-unwrapped, and ready for texturing, rigging, and animation.
  • Test and implement AI-assisted modeling workflows, including photogrammetry cleanup, mesh retopology, and auto UVs.
  • Work with the LookDev and FX teams to ensure model fidelity under varying lighting/render conditions.
  • Contribute to the creation and management of a reusable asset library tailored for fast iteration and R&D testing.
  • Stay up to date with Blender releases, add-ons, and industry trends, recommending tools and techniques to improve the modeling pipeline.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 3+ years of professional experience as a 3D Modeler, with a focus on Blender.
  • Expertise in hard-surface modeling, organic modeling, and environment asset creation.
  • Strong experience with Geometry Nodes for procedural modeling workflows.
  • Knowledge of topology standards, UV mapping, and LOD creation.
  • Familiarity with real-time asset optimization for Unreal Engine is a plus.
  • Understanding of PBR material standards and how models interact with LookDev and texturing teams.
  • Experience with photogrammetry cleanup and retopology workflows is a bonus.
  • Familiarity with USD-based asset workflows (optional but a plus).
  • Basic understanding of Python scripting in Blender for automating repetitive tasks (preferred).
  • Strong artistic sense, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering production-quality assets.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
Nice to Have:
  • Experience in rigging and animation-ready asset development.
  • Knowledge of Substance Painter/Designer, ZBrush, or SpeedTree for asset enhancement.
  • Familiarity with AI-driven asset generation tools (Kaedim3D, Meshroom, etc.).
  • Previous experience working in an R&D or experimental pipeline.
