Job Opening: 3D Character Rigger

Type: Freelance/Part-Time

Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain high-quality character rigs in Maya, ensuring they are animation-friendly and optimized for production workflows.
  • Create human, creature, and non-human biped character rigs suitable for TV/feature animation characters.
  • Develop robust control systems for facial and body rigs, with an emphasis on flexibility, efficiency, and performance.
  • Work within a Maya-to-Unreal Engine pipeline, ensuring seamless integration of assets and maintaining visual and technical consistency.
  • Utilize and implement tools such as Advanced Skeleton for Maya to streamline the rigging process and support the animation team.
  • Collaborate with animators, modelers, and technical artists to ensure rigs meet production needs and deliver expressive character performances.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve rigging and skinning issues, ensuring optimal deformation and articulation of character assets.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the animation and technical teams regarding rigging workflows and tools.
  • (Optional) Create Control Rigs for performance in Unreal Engine.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience working in TV animation, feature films, VFX, or game development.
  • Proficiency in integrating assets from third-party software (e.g., Maya, Blender) into Unreal Engine.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with creative and technical teams.
  • Familiarity with virtual production workflows, real-time lighting, and rendering for animated content.
  • Strong understanding of real-time rendering pipelines, lighting, animation, and technical workflows in Unreal Engine.
  • Familiarity with Unreal Engine’s animation, sequencing, and rendering capabilities, particularly in an animated series production environment.
  • (Bonus) Experience with programming and scripting (Blueprints, Python, or C++) to build tools and automate processes within Unreal Engine.
  • Passion for working on family-friendly and all-ages animated content.
