Job Opening: Unreal FX Artist
Location: Montpellier, France
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Creation and integration of special effects: Design and realization of realistic and stylized visual effects (fire, smoke, particles, explosions, fluid simulations, etc.) within Unreal Engine.
- Effect optimization: Work on FX optimization to ensure smooth real-time performance while maintaining visual quality.
- Interdisciplinary collaboration: Work closely with the animation, lighting, modeling, and rigging teams to ensure special effects are properly integrated into sequences.
- Research and development: Explore new technologies and workflows to improve FX pipelines, especially for Unreal Engine.
- Technical support: Solve issues related to visual effects during various phases of production, from prototype to final delivery.
- Deadlines and planning: Ensure project schedules and deadlines are met for the visual effects of ongoing projects.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Proficiency in Unreal Engine (ideally Unreal Engine 5), particularly in real-time visual effects creation.
- Experience with Niagara (Unreal’s particle system) for designing and implementing high-quality FX.
- Strong knowledge of shaders and Unreal’s material editor for creating complex visual effects.
- Solid experience with physical simulations (fluids, destruction, particle dynamics, etc.).
- Proficiency with 3D tools such as Maya, Houdini, or Blender for creating visual effects.
- Knowledge of Unreal scripts and blueprints to automate certain effects and processes.
- Expertise in optimizing scenes for real-time rendering.
- Creative mindset and attention to detail.
- Strong ability to work in a team and communicate effectively.
- Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Flexibility to adapt to feedback and iterate quickly to meet project needs.
- Curiosity and technological awareness to stay up to date with the latest advancements in visual effects and Unreal technologies.
- Degree in 3D animation, digital arts, visual effects, or equivalent.
- At least 5 years of experience as an Unreal FX Artist in the video game, animation, or visual effects industry.
- Previous experience in a 3D animation studio, video game studio, or post-production is highly valued.
- A portfolio or demo reel demonstrating the quality of visual effects created in Unreal.
