Job Opening: Material Artist
Location: Europe – Remote
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Art and Technical teams in developing advanced shaders, smart materials, and tileable textures that elevate our games and add value to the game development process
- Work closely with our Directors, Art Leads, and fellow artists to create texture maps for in-game assets while following and enforcing technical guidelines
- Create and maintain texture graphs and materials using tools like Substance Designer
- Document production workflows and mentor artists in our current pipelines and industry-standard methods
- Be responsible for seamlessly integrating your work into the material and tool libraries
- Collaborate with other teams in problem-solving production and challenges with a creative approach
- Work with artists to revise and respond based on feedback for both aesthetic and technical requirements
- Provide guidance and assistance to the Art Team as they develop and implement their work throughout the game pipelines
- Be aware of your workload while completing tasks during your sprint time and resolve any issues that arise in collaboration with the Lead and Producer
Qualifications & Skills:
- Strong proven experience creating Materials, Textures, and Shaders
- Strong understanding of PBR rendering and materials
- Proficiency in software such as Substance Designer, Substance Painter, Quixel Mixer, or equivalent tools
- Experience working with photogrammetry and scanned textures, adapting, tweaking, and combining as needed by the project style and theme
- A portfolio showcasing your expertise in developing high-quality game-ready textures
- Knowledge of the Unreal Engine 4 or 5, Material Editor, and the Texture setup and optimization process
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills are essential
- A strong work ethic and excellent interpersonal skills like teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability
- Proactively voice concerns and constructively raise issues
- Ability to improve and establish processes to enhance the material and texture creation workflows and streamline the pipeline
- Account for texel ratio and UV mapping
- Strong knowledge of any of the commercial Game Engines
- Examples of procedural textures used on props and environments
- A good grasp of color theory and lighting
- Experience with project management tools (Jira, Clickup, Confluence, etc…)
Bonus Points:
- At least two years of professional experience in the game development industry as a Texture/Material Artist
- Experience with shader and Unreal Engine Material creation
- You have shipped any commercial games before
- You have experience in Scrum
