Job Opening: Character Artist
Location: Seattle, Washington State
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Create high-quality, detailed 3D character models and assets.
- Understand how to work with asset limitations to high high quality deliverables on time while managing risks.
- Mentor and motivate other character artists.
- Ensure art assets are performant and within budgets for draw calls, poly counts, and texture memory without compromising visual quality.
- Develop new character ideas that fit within conceptual designs, technical parameters, and production goals, for a live-service online game.
- Help define and maintain art production pipelines, tools, and systems to hit high fidelity within the constraints.
Qualifications & Skills:
- 5+ years of work experience in game development as a character artist using Maya (or 3DSMax), Photoshop, Zbrush, or Mudbox.
- Experience communicating with a team and providing and receiving feedback.
- Expert in realistic characters with a solid understanding of character form.
- Knowledge in hi-poly modeling and digital sculpting.
- Proven knowledge of low poly modeling techniques.
- Experience taking a character to completion from either a detailed or simple concept image.
- Experience collaborating with producers, game designers, and programmers.
- Hands-on experience with asset optimization challenges/techniques in a shipped product.
- Experience problem-solving and prototyping.
- Hands-on experience with game engines such as Unity, Unreal, or equivalent experience.
- Portfolio of highly detailed 3D art with a focus on realistic characters.
- Experience with UV layout and editing as needed for the highest visual payoff.
- Experience building assets for VR or AR.
- Knowledge of hard surface modeling for armor and weapons.
- Experience with Perforce and/or Git.
- Strong knowledge of Marvelous Designer and Substance Painter.
- Experience in animation and rigging.
