Job Opening: Character Modeling Supervisor
Location: Montreal, QC, Canada
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of 3D models for use in production
- Work with the modeling team and Art Director to realize the aesthetic vision of the production
- Collaborate with the Layout, CFX, Surfacing, and Lighting Supervisors to ensure that modeled assets meet simulation, shading and lighting standards and that their requirements are met
- Partner with Rigging and Animation to ensure that all models meet the necessary standards and requirements in order to meet the rigging and animation targets
- Work with production to schedule the team
- Represent the team in creative and technical discussions
- Ensure the quality of work of the department is upheld and pushed through the mentorship and guidance of the team
- Collaborate with the development team to maintain and streamline the department pipeline
Qualifications & Skills:
- 5+ years of proven supervisory experience in feature animation and/or visual effects production
- Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Commercial Arts, Engineering, Computer Science, Animation, or other relevant area of study and/or equivalent job experience
- Ability to lead, train, and motivate the team
- Demonstrated ability with Maya and popular sculpting packages such as zBrush for both hard surface and organic models of feature production quality
- An understanding and experience in the creation and use of geometry assets in a production setting
- Knowledge of polygonal and subdivision surface types
- Life drawing and sculpting experience, a plus
- Basic understanding of scripting and programming in Python, MEL a plus
- Knowledge of anatomy and perspective coupled with an ability to accurately translate a 2D design into a 3D model
- Knowledge of Xgen, Yeti, or other procedural set-dressing software is a plus
- Thorough understanding of animation production for film
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
