Job Opening: Senior Lighting Artist
Location: London, Ontario or Remote
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Understand the game design and artistic direction documents to become familiar with the challenges that will impact game lighting and be able to propose atmosphere and lighting ideas
- Assist in the design of lighting systems that will support the atmosphere and gameplay effects and highlight the work of the Level Design and Level Art teams
- In addition to light sources, assist in the placement of lighting-specific VFX items and in the management of the lighting portion of the levels
- Have the artistic director and technical director validate the quality of the lighting and make any changes that are requested
- Verify and maintain the quality of the lighting from both an artistic and technical standpoint across many levels and multiple projects
- Be a point of contact for other team members in order to help solve any technical or artistic lighting problems
- Fix the lighting bugs entered by testers
- Optimize the lighting, in keeping with the technical limitations of the engine
- Be involved in the ongoing maintenance of our live and evolving game as it pertains to lighting.
- Carry out all other related tasks
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications & Skills:
- College diploma or University degree in 3D, Game Development, Graphic Arts, Fine Arts or a similar field
- Formal training as a lighting artist in games or film or experience in a studio photography setting
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in the field of real-time lighting for games and have a high-level understanding of both the artistic and technical guidelines/impacts that lighting can have on a game environment
- Artistic knowledge of lighting techniques, real-time and pre-rendered.
- Knowledge of lighting, colour theory, and image composition
- Practical experience using project management software such as Jira, Shotgun, BaseCamp, etc
- Experience in photography is an asset
- Experience in computer graphics or pre-rendering an asset
- A portfolio of your own work that demonstrates a diverse range of lighting types and settings and an ability to tell a story through composition, staging, and lighting
