Job Opening: Level Designer on Unity
Location: Remote
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Level Design: Conceptualize, design, and implement game levels that align with the project’s creative vision, gameplay mechanics, and technical constraints.
- Environment Creation: Utilize Unity Engine to build 3D environments, including terrain, architecture, props, lighting, and special effects, to create visually stunning and immersive game worlds.
- Gameplay Integration: Collaborate with designers and programmers to integrate gameplay mechanics, puzzles, challenges, and narrative elements seamlessly into the level design.
- Iteration and Testing: Iterate on level designs based on feedback from playtesting, team members, and stakeholders to ensure optimal gameplay balance, pacing, and overall player experience.
- Optimization: Optimize levels for performance and resource efficiency, considering factors such as rendering performance, asset budgets, and platform requirements.
- Documentation: Create clear and concise documentation, including level design documents, diagrams, and asset lists, to communicate design concepts and implementation details to the team.
- Collaboration: Work closely with artists, animators, sound designers, and other team members to ensure that the visual, audio, and gameplay elements of the level align harmoniously with the overall game experience.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Proven experience as a level designer in the game industry, with at least [6 years] of experience working on shipped titles or published projects.
- Proficient in Unity Engine and other relevant software tools used in game development, such as level editors, 3D modeling software (e.g., Maya, Blender), and version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Strong creative and artistic skills with a keen eye for detail, composition, lighting, and atmosphere.
- Experience in Unity key features Scriptable Objects, Nested prefabs, AssetBundles, Sprite Atlases, Animations, Particles, TextMeshPro to create reusable and modular game components.
- Solid understanding of multiplayer game design principles and experience in implementing multiplayer gameplay mechanics.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively communicate ideas, give and receive feedback, and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and analytically about gameplay mechanics, level flow, and player engagement.
- Passion for games and a deep understanding of game design principles, player psychology, and emerging trends in the gaming industry.
- Ability to adapt to evolving project requirements, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
Nice to Have:
- Utilize Shader Graph and URP pipeline to create visually stunning and optimized shaders and materials along with Unity’s VFX Graph to design and implement captivating visual effects.
- Experience with scripting or programming languages (e.g., C#, Python) for gameplay implementation and prototyping.
- Knowledge of level design principles for various game genres, such as action, adventure, puzzle, and platformer.
- Familiarity with virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) development.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in game design, computer science, or a related field.
