Job Opening: Lead VFX Artist
Location: Knutsford, United Kingdom
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for overseeing the concept and creation of VFX across the whole game.
- Work with Art Director to ensure consistency between vision and implementation of effects.
- Identify where game designs may inadvertently impact VFX schedules and identify how best to mitigate them, utilising the expertise within your team.
- Work with Production to provide accurate time estimates for the team’s task completion, demonstrating an understanding of cross-discipline dependencies and how their work impacts upon your teams.
- Regularly review the team’s work and provide feedback.
- Ensure the VFX teams work hits all memory and frame rate guides/restrictions on all platforms required.
- Work closely with the engine programmers to build future tools to improve pipelines and graphic potential.
- Resolve an assortment of complex development issues to support the VFX artists.
- Ensure documentation of technical guidelines for VFX creation and real-time implementation is taking place within the team and contribute regularly to the creation of them.
- Support the VFX team on project, helping them to define and achieve their career goals. Review training and development requirements for the team.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Comprehensive portfolio demonstrating VFX work in the games industry.
- Demonstrable people management experience
- Proficiency of a 3D application, preferably Maya.
- Strong Photoshop skills for creating texture effects for use within particle systems.
- Aptitude in using UE4 or UE5
- A comprehension of shaders and rendering pipelines as they relate to games VFX.
- Robust understanding of VFX principals with a skilled sense of timing and staging.
- Flexible approach with the ability to adapt with change.
- Ability to deliver quality work to scheduled deadlines.
Beneficial:
- Experience with a scripting language.
- Experience with fluid simulation tools (e.g. FumeFX).
- Experience with source control programmes such as Perforce & SVN.
- Use of production tracking tools such as JIRA & Confluence.
