Description:

  • Motion Capture Setup: The TD is responsible for setting up and calibrating the motion capture equipment on the set, including Vicon cameras and Xsens motion capture suits. They ensure that the cameras are properly positioned and configured to capture accurate motion data.
  • Data Acquisition: The TD oversees the data acquisition process during filming or performance capture sessions. They monitor the motion capture data in real-time, ensuring that the capture is of high quality and that there are no technical issues or missing data.
  • Troubleshooting: In case of technical problems or glitches during the motion capture process, the TD troubleshoots the equipment and software to quickly resolve issues. They have a good understanding of the Vicon camera system, Xsens motion capture suits, and the Unreal Engine, allowing them to diagnose and fix problems efficiently.
  • Pipeline Integration: The TD collaborates with other departments, such as the animation team, rigging team, and VFX artists, to ensure the smooth integration of motion capture data into the production pipeline. They work closely with the data management team to organize and process the captured motion data for further use.
  • Calibration and Quality Control: The TD is responsible for performing regular system calibrations to maintain the accuracy and reliability of the motion capture setup. They also conduct quality control checks to verify the integrity of the captured data and identify any errors or anomalies.
  • Documentation and Training: The TD maintains accurate documentation of the motion capture setup, processes, and workflows. They may also provide training and support to other team members, such as actors or production crew, on using the motion capture equipment and ensuring proper performance capture techniques.
  • Research and Development: As a mid-level TD, they actively stay updated with the latest advancements in motion capture technology, software, and techniques. They may contribute to research and development efforts to improve the efficiency and quality of the motion capture process.
  • Collaboration and Communication: The TD collaborates closely with directors, producers, cinematographers, and other members of the production team to understand their vision and requirements for motion capture. They communicate effectively with team members to ensure everyone is aligned and informed about the progress and challenges in the motion capture process.
