Job Opening: Lead Compositor

Location: Montreal, QC, Canada

Type: Full-Time

Responsibilities:

  • Clear communication between the VFX Supervisor, Producer and 2D team in order to understand and convey the creative and technical goals of the team.
  • Clear communication with the 3D team in order to ensure total collaboration with the 2D team. Both teams are the VFX team and must pull in the same direction at all times.
  • Compositing skills will include rotoscoping, tracking marker removal, rig and wire removal, tracking (2D, Planar and Camera Tracking), 3D Camera Projections, color correction and color matching, digital cosmetic fixes, beauty work and deaging, warping, greenscreen keying and integration, set extensions, cgi integration, deep compositing, TCL Expressions and Python Scripting (preferred but not essential). Experience of other supporting packages is a plus. 
  • You will have a good understanding of the broader VFX pipeline including colour-space, workflow and industry standard script layouts.
  • You will offer advice and knowledge to tech-bunker on pipeline and workflow improvements and software developments in order to continually improve Outpost’s 2D abilities. 
  • Maintain and develop skills to keep up with developments in software and processes. Understand and follow OutpostVFX’s pipeline procedures and conform to and uphold the Outpost workflow pertaining to all aspects of 2D including colour-space.
  • Lead teams of 2D artists to deliver project briefs to specific schedules agreed with the Producer and inform them if the schedule is unachievable as early as possible in the process in order to allow production to provide sufficient support.
  • Be present and vocal in all relevant dailies sessions, setting an example of the Outpost culture in terms of professionalism and quality/creative reviews.
  • 2D Lead is a role model to the artists in the 2D team and should always set an example of Outposts working and social culture
  • Maintain a positive attitude towards all and any projects. Help create a collaborative and creative atmosphere within the team and the wider company.
  • Understand the hierarchy within the team and the broader company.
  • Be able to work autonomously, i.e., opportunity/problem identifying and realising/solving.

  • You will be seen as helpful and cooperative team member and leader by your peers and supervisors across both 2D and 3D departments

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 4+ years High End Film, TV or Commercial VFX industry experience.
  • Experience of Compositing CG elements into live action plates and 3D Environments.
  • A strong eye for detail, composition, colour and lighting.
  • Excellent knowledge of Nuke.
  • Thorough understanding of compositing techniques.
  • Able to understand and apply shot notes.
