Job Opening: Houdini Environment Artist
Location: Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Work with the leads to realize aesthetic vision of the production
- Interpret 2D designs into 3D models
- Create procedural modeling in Houdini from supplied reference material and/or concept artwork.
- Create and use geometry assets in a production setting
- Apply and adjust UVs, working closely with texture artists to ensure UVs are positioned and scaled efficiently.
- Work with the layout team for set dressing
- Create set dressing using scattering tools in Houdini (placing and randomizing grass, rocks, pebbles, trees, etc… )
- Provide creative ideas and solutions for the film on both visual and technical levels.
- Produce the highest quality work possible within a given amount of time and a defined pipeline
Qualifications & Skills:
- Previous experience as an Environment Artist
- Strong knowledge of Maya and Houdini
- Experience in set dressing, scattering, modelling
- Knowledge of Houdini HDAs.
- Experience creating hard-surface and organic digital models and sets.
- Excellent understanding of the feature animation pipeline from modelling through texturing, animation and rendering.
- Thorough understanding of the modelling process and the ability to both interpret designs and accurately match reference material.
- Knowledge of traditional art skills (Form, architecture, anatomy, topology, colour theory and UV mapping)
- Excellent Maya polygon and subdivision surface modelling skills and the ability to apply and manage UVs.
- Knowledge of VEX is a plus
- Ability to work well within a team while solving asset-specific issues independently.
- Experience with sculpting packages.
- Experience creating corrective blendshapes.
- Basic texturing skills and an understanding of rigging techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- An organized and methodical approach to your work.
