Type: Full-Time

Responsibilities

  • Focus on practically implementing combat direction of the game – taking into account the AI design work, level design, character and weapon design, and how to translate it through combat introduction and combat player progression, align it with game pillars, and maintain that direction 
  • Develop multiple combat encounters and iterate on them constantly 
  • Suggest and practically implement possible combat improvements – in level design, in enemy behavior, and weapon development 
  • Work very closely with AI design team, Weapon design team, Level design team, VFX, Audio, Art, and Creative leads of the project 
  • Test developed combat encounters with various team members, make sure combat has a learning progression, and it can be practically applied 
  • Set up and maintain documentation related to any designs created and keep track of intentions and characteristics.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 6+ years of Combat Design experience in an FPS, 3rd person action shooter, or action combat titles.  
  • Advanced level of hands-on feature, content prototyping, and authoring experience in engines like Unreal, Unity, or other AAA engines.  
  • Expert game design sensibilities, including excellent sense of timing and instincts of what feels right. Deep understanding of the gameplay systems and mechanics, able to pro/con design decisions and the ramifications they will have on the overall experience.   
  • Analyze and articulate enemy archetype design and how archetypes are used to teach, reinforce, or disrupt players’ play patterns.  
  • Knowledge of how combat gameplay difficulties are scaled through manipulation of elements on player, enemies, and AI behaviors.  
  • CS degree is a plus.
