Job Opening: 2D Character Artist
Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Type: Full-Time
Responsibilities:
- Character Design: Create visually stunning and original 2D character designs aligned with project requirements and art direction.
- Concept Art: Develop detailed character concept art, including variations and expressions, to guide the 3D modeling team.
- Collaboration: Work closely with art directors, animators, and other team members to ensure the seamless integration of characters into the game or animation.
- Feedback Incorporation: Receive and incorporate feedback from team members and stakeholders to refine character designs.
- Style Consistency: Maintain consistency in art style throughout the project while contributing creatively to enhance the overall visual experience.
- Research and Development: Stay updated on industry trends, tools, and techniques related to 2D character art, and implement new methods to improve workflow and quality.
- Meeting Deadlines: Ensure timely delivery of high-quality character assets within project deadlines.
- Documentation: Maintain documentation of character design processes and assets for reference and future projects.
- 2D AI-related experience is a plus.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Animation, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of professional experience as a 2D Character Artist, with a strong portfolio showcasing character design proficiency.
- Eligibility to work in Canada: we are unable to sponsor a work permit for this position.
- Skills:
- Proficient with Photoshop, Painter, or the equivalent for digital concept creation.
- Solid understanding of anatomy, proportion, and facial expressions.
- Ability to create visually appealing and unique characters based on project requirements.
- Strong knowledge of color theory and the ability to apply it effectively.
- Creativity: Demonstrated creative and artistic abilities with a keen eye for detail.
- Collaboration: Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and adapt to art style guidelines.
- Adaptability: Comfortable adapting to various art styles and project requirements.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate and present artistic ideas.
- Initiative: Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
